Client & Industry
Virginia Harris Design is a San Francisco
based interior design firm specializing
in the full spectrum of interiors —
from classic to contemporary.
Challenges/Observations
Ms. Harris needed an identity to
envelop and express her diverse
range of styles, while not alienating
any component of her audience. Her
previous look was type-based with
neither an identifying logo nor an integrated image.
Evolution Strategy
The asymmetrical embossed V suggests the human touch that
Ms. Harris lends to her interiors. The simplicity provides flexibility and
interest in all applications from stationery and business cards to print advertising.
Results
Ms. Harris feels the stationery suite has given her business
a more professional sensibility and elicits confidence in her prospective
clients.
Client & Industry
The Oakland Zoo in the East Bay’s Knowland
Park is home to over 300 native and exotic
animals that live in naturalistic habitats.
Challenges/Observations
The Zoo wanted to update and decom-
mercialize ROAR! to match the natural
setting of the Zoo and to integrate with
the look and feel of other Zoo publications.
Evolution Strategy
We created a new masthead and switched
the paper from a bright white glossy coated
stock to a natural uncoated recycled one. We
also streamlined the format of the newsletter
to make the information more accessible
and reader friendly.
Results
Increased membership as well as increased
interest
and participation among existing members.
Client & Industry
Beverages and more! is California’s
largest retail chain of wine, spirits
and beer also offering a huge
selection of food, accessories,
glassware and cigars.
Challenges/Observations
Our goal was to upgrade the existing
black and white generic house
branding to a refreshed upscale
“generic” look that could compete
visually with the name brands.
Evolution Strategy
We created a labeling system
for the Bevmo! house brand with
eye-catching color which maintained
the simple, low-cost, high quality
look and feel.
Results
Sales of the house brands
significantly increased.
Client & Industry
Torcon, Inc. is a privately-held construction
management Þrm based in WestÞeld, New Jersey
and in Puerto Rico. Their list of clients includes
leading corporations, airports, hospitals and
institutional developers.
Challenges/Observations
Torcon wanted to replace their existing
image with a stronger presence that
would be more easily integrated into
their range of business tools.
Evolution Strategy
Torcon wanted to shake their image as
a small, local general contractor to bring
them in line with their competitors Ñ other
large national and international Þrms.
Results
Ken Smith of Torcon states, "I believe the logo clearly presents
a much more modern image for the company. The logo is beautiful, but its integration
within our business tools was absolute magic. I absolutely love the look of
a letter printed
on our letterhead."
Client & Industry
Franciscan Oakville Estates is a
25 year-old award-winning winery
in Napa Valley.
Challenges/Observations
Franciscan wanted to expand their wine
club’s monthly newsletter and update
the look and feel to evoke a more
intimate, less commercial experience
in their readership.
Evolution Strategy
To produce the personal, earthy
look the client desired, we created
a hand-lettered masthead and
branded the newsletter (and several
releated collateral items) with a set
of four icons that supported the
newsletter’s new name: Terrior.
Results
The initial print run of 500 increased to 5000 and membership
in the Monthly Wine Club increased by 300 percent.
